Day trip to Lake Duluti – Walking & Kanoing : On the Lake Duluti Day trip we will explore Lake Duluti; an old crater that became a lake. The lake is incredibly deep. They say its more than 700m deep, but it’s unconfirmed till this day. Lake Duluti is beautifully located between the green, lush forests and lends itself for a great deal of activities. From here you’ll have views on Mt. Meru and sometimes even Mt. Kilimanjaro. It is a paradise for reptiles and birds. Monitor lizards can be seen sunbathing on the edge of the lake and a great variety of birds have made their homes here. Occasionally monkeys can be seen swinging from the treetops on the edge of the lake.
Lake Duluti Day Trip – Kanoing & Hiking
Get ready for a day of relaxing, fun and pure enjoyment. We will pick you up from Arusha in the morning, from which we have a short drive to Lake Duluti. Here we stop at the Duluti Forest Club where we can enjoy the beautiful surroundings, have a guided hike around the lake and take the kanoe out for a spin. During the hike you will explore the lake and learn about its interesting history, variety of animals and its flora & fauna.
After the hike, you can choose to grab a kanoe and paddle around the lake to spot some monitor lizards or just float around in the sun. Upon returning there’s loads of time to relax, have a swim in the lake and drink a beer with our friends from the forest club.
The activity is usually half a day, but most people who aren’t bound to a busy schedule choose to stay there for the day to relax, swim & enjoy.
Note: This tour is booked from Arusha. It can be done private transport as well as by public transport (see prices). Since Lake Duluti is quite close to Arusha, it’s perfectly fine to take the public tranport together with us, to have that real local experience! If you like this, send us an enquiry. Trips from Moshi are available, but at a different price.

If you feel like walking and canoeing in unspoilt nature, I can highly recommend a trip to Lake Duluti. This small but deep crater lake captivated me not only by its tranquility but also by its surrounding forests full of secrets and surprises. First, we were guided around the lake by Dickson, our very knowledgeable guide. Ask for plants, birds, reptiles, he could name them and give any interesting information.
By imitating the sounds of animals he even lured them out from their hidden spaces and we could watch monkeys, rare birds and more. We enjoyed the walk through impressive nature, the long lianos temted us to try their strenghth and the crocodile tail climbers seemed like weapons from a forelorn world.
Just in time to watch a golden sunset we started our boat tour and while gliding along magical vegitation, we were listening to the sounds of nature. I didn’t enjoy this natural gem for the first time and would not hesitate to come again and again.
