Description of Cooking with the local Mammas
Today we’ll dive deep into Tanzania’s local cuisine and who knows most about food? The local mammas of Tanzania. Depending on your schedule, the mammas will take you to a nearby market to get all of the ingredients for supper. You will hear the local vendors negotiating and advertising and selling their goods in loud screams in the market, which is already a wonderful experience in and of itself! You get to experience a real, local market and try your hand at negotiating for the best price.
Once the supplies are acquired, your mamma will explain and demonstrate how to cook one of their favorite, local foods, and you will have the opportunity to learn about the lives of Tanzanian mammas.
Then you’ll go to a local kitchen and learn how to make foods like ugali, wali, chapati, mboga, tuwi, and many more… These foods will be served at lunch! Which one do you prefer? We’ll have some time after cooking to consume the great food we just prepared.

On the one hand, you must visit Arusha on any trip to Tanzania – this is the starting point for some of Tanzania’s most famous sites, including Kilimanjaro, the Serengeti, and Ngorongoro Crater. So, should you stay more than one night in Arusha? There is certainly plenty to do in the town – from cultural programmes, to museums, to shopping to day trips – there is enough to spend at least two days. If you already have a full itinerary, including hiking, safaris, and beach work in Zanzibar, then perhaps it is best to only stay one night in one of Arusha’s attractive plantation guesthouses.
